Beyond beautiful. So much history in one spot - it's a really lovely walk! The pirate graveyard is especially fascinating however all of the trees have recently been chopped so it's lost a little bit of it's spooky charm. The beach itself is lovely too. Definitely prepare yourself for the walk back up though - so many steps and so little knee power! Either way, you should definitely find the time to visit!

A great place to go exploring the church ruins, find the pirate grave and enjoy a quiet secluded cove. The way down will give your legs a good work out but it's well worth it. It almost seems a bit forgotten by tourism so it's a great place to get away from the bustle of the more popular places to visit. Don't forget to look for the hidden underground room ... Pirate hideaway or catacombs, you decide!

Great little pebbly cove. Small, steep sided..significant steps down - up past Rufus Castle or another path takes you through 'pirate's' grave yard and old ruined church. There is a scattering of beach sheds around the cove, presumably owned / rented? As a small cove...relatively speaking, not that many people gives impression of being 'fullish.' Still. There's little in the way of beaches around Portland itself (excluding the magnificent Chesil)...so if you are fit / ok with steps / inclines...worth a peek.

So amazing we went twice and stayed all day! We heard the legend of the pirate Graves from some local children, and my son felt like a true adventurer as we descended the forest pathway into the cove, where we discovered the ancient ruins of St Andrews churchyard and the graves on the hill. A very peaceful and restful place, with a charming (if steep!) Pathways to a secluded beach with beautiful views.

Church Ope Cove has a lot of steps to get down to the bottom. It's a stony beach and difficult to walk on. But it gets you away from the world - there's no phone signal! Lots of nature if you sit quietly and wait.

A nice little cove with the ruins of circa 1500 castle. Worth a visit and lovely to enjoy some beautiful view. Way is the road leading to the museum. A big hidden. There is a car park nearby but I just kept the car on the opposite to the entrance. Few spaces are there. Would love to visit again.

The first place the Vikings landed in Britain, lovely little beach, smooth cobblestones.

Scenic view and beach. Be prepared for a steep climb down to the beach via the footpath and steps. It's a pebble beach so take water footage. Seaweed on the beech can be smelly and attracts the flies. Seabed is also pebble/rocks with Seaweed patches, so very slippery. Also not the biggest beach around so that's an advatage/disadvantage depending on how busy it gets.
